Thursday October 15th 2009 Dear Citizens of Nampa, On Thursday October 15th a Nampa Citizen, Mr. Alan Marsh wrote a letter to the editor in The Idaho Press Tribune that contained falsehoods about me and my candidacy. First he said that I ran as a Democrat for Mayor of Lansing MI. when that race is totally non-partisan. Mr. Marsh failed to inform you that I also was a member of the Republican Party at one time and even helped George H.W. Bush in his campaign in 1992. It is true that I ran as a Democrat for State Rep. in Michigan at one time, however I am not affiliated with any parties as I take a little from both parties in my way of thinking. Mr. Marsh also said that I advocated gay marriage which is totally untrue. As mayor of Nampa I would never try to push an agenda on Nampa citizens that they were against. He also said that the NAATP advocated gay marriage on their website. The NAATP doesn't have a website and was disbanded by me in 2004. There is a group on Yahoo called the NAATP, but I am not one of...

What is Bus Rapid Transit? What could BRT mean for Nampa and The Treasure Valley? BRT is an innovative, high capacity, lower cost public transit solution that can significantly improve urban mobility. This permanent, integrated system uses buses or specialized vehicles on roadways or dedicated lanes to quickly and efficiently transport passengers to their destinations, while offering the flexibility to meet transit demand. BRT systems can easily be customized to community needs and incorporate state-of-the-art, low-cost technologies that result in more passengers and less congestion. After reading the plan below (go to link) I know that this will work and I want it to start in Nampa. http://www.nbrti.org/docs/pdf/ITDP%20BRT%20Planning%20Guide.

* Stable city management by a professional, accredited City Administrator free of partisan politics

* Apportionment of the City Council for truer representative government

* Accreditation of the Boise Police Department and reconstitution of the Office of the Police Ombudsman's Office into an "Office of the Citizen's Advocate" for all of City Government. An office found in good government everywhere.

* Efficiency, transparency and control with absorption of the various components of Boise's Shadow Government into City Government

* Inspiring, proactive infrastructure development and healthy, sustainable growth delivered by a City Hall more concerned with actual livability than with livability slogans

The Office of the Mayor's budget, compensation and responsibilities dramatically reduced, becoming a Councilman-at-Large with ultra v powers. A Professional, accredited City admistrator vetted and...

As reported on extensively by Mr. Frazier @ the Boise Guardian and elsewhere, our illustrious leaders are seemingly incapable of creating a simple Traffic Mall and have even screwed the pooch so bad that the city stands to loose millions of Federal Dollars to build it and are scrambling like tweekers to put something - anything - in place.

I’m constantly amazed by the short term thinking encountered.

Like when the Flying M Coffee House on Idaho Street (otherwise an ostensibly socially conscious company) bitched and moaned about potentially loosing 2 or 3 Metered Parking Spaces to accommodate a Bus Stop in Front of their place.

What… Bus riders don’t drink coffee? Try telling that to Dawson’s, Thomas Hammer and Starbuck’s.

Granted, the vast majority of Boiseans would rather be boiled in oil alive than ** gasp ** set foot on public transportation, and the public perception is often one where the only users of public transportation are immigrants, freaks, people who have lost their licenses, etc., AND the powers that...

Things will be better for me for a while as I am not in new construction or car sales.
I just hope people keep many of their current jobs so they will have upgrades to their homes to keep me busy as ever.

The good news however, is that we are evidently not as corrupt as North Dakota.

In response to the recent scandal involving Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, and a nearly institutionalized inclination to condemn Chicago and Illinois as hubs of public corruption, USA Today today published data showing that - per capita - they come in a mere 18th place for corruption.

Let us recap...

Idaho is one of the worst States in terms of Childhood Immunizations, Child and Spousal Abuse, Integrity in Government, DUI Convictions, Teenage Suicide, and the list goes on.

But it's sooooooooo beautiful.

Just caught this posting on From the Editors

Is this a story?
You tell me? Canyon County Commissioner Steve Rule forwarded an e-mail about Michelle Obama's election-night dress (black with a red splattering of color in the front) to 26 people, including Canyon County government e-mail accounts, according to blogger Jill Kuraitis, at NewWest Boise.
It's wrong for any government official to use a government sponsored e-mail to send text, jokes, pictures, videos or links of anything to anyone unless it is official county business.
Because if you do, it will like bite you in the butt, as this one has bitten Steve Rule.
Rule said he thought it was funny. Kuraitis calls it racist because it compares Michelle Obama to a black widow spider. Is it racist? Many people would not think so. She also talks about Idaho's reputation when it comes to tolerance.
But I wanted to learn more. I figured if it could be forwarded, it had to start on the Web somewhere, much like most of the other "crap" that fills our e-mail...

To whom it may concern,
I would like to tell you what some of the votes and political decisions that have been made in this “right to work” state has done to just our family. My husband has been a truck driver for over 10 years, he has never been late on a load, nor has he called in sick except one time that I can remember, that was due to injury on the job, he only allowed himself to be out of work for a few days.
My husband started working for Brian Wilson Trucking in Emmett Idaho, whom praised his work all of the time that he worked there. With the economy going as you all know that it is, it was becoming harder for Brian Wilson to find loads for my husband to get. He would be laid over for a few days waiting, or he would be stuck at home for a day or two, all of this with no pay. My husband did not complain, not once. He was never late on a load with Brian Wilson trucking.
Then I became ill, as I have severe anxiety and depression, I needed my medication changed. Since Brian Wilson Trucking...

Idaho Near Top In Lack Of Gov’t Integrity

"Idaho made it on another National List recently, placing near the top of the “Lack of Integrity In Government” survey. Probably won’t see any press releases from Team Dave, the Commishes, or Guv. Butch’s spinmeisters on that one.

THE SURVEY by the Chicago-based Better Government Association examined open records laws, open meeting laws, whistle-blower laws, campaign finance requirements and conflict-of-interest laws. It then created a government “integrity index” that put Idaho near the bottom of the list–or the top when it comes to LACK of integrity in government.

Here at the GUARDIAN we see it all the time. Boise City nearly doubles the appraised value on desert land they took in trade, and claimed a 4 year old public hearing was legal authority to trade citizen owned property.

Twin Falls urban renewal agency does a land deal contingent...

From: Another Puppet Ruler USA 11/16

'Twas an attempt by the media over the past few years to drive people insane over the matter of putting another "puppet ruler" in the White House to be manipulated by the ever-growing private army of Zion's Secrect Police; i.e. Secret Service, which must number @ 120,000 by now. It would be 250,000 if they kept up their growth rate from the second half of the last century. What I saw was unreal! Although the purpose of the election was to choose Electors to cast their votes for President the third week in December, I saw that Electoral victories were being declared in states with 1% of the Popular Vote counted. I saw California polls were supposed to close at 5 PM. When is the 9 to 5 worker supposed to vote? And what kind of lines would there be at the polls? It's all a sham! It's a ruse to show voters that their vote is not worth anything! How in hell does the media get the Electoral Vote when it is not supposed to be casted until December or counted until January? I'd also...

The Caldwell Guardian recently raised this question in relation to governance in Canyon County.

Staunton, Virginia is the Birthplace of the Council / Manager form of governance. Created in 1908 during the Progressive Era to remove city government from the machinations of politics, and place management of the city into the hands of a trained, accredited executive who would remain neutral to city politics.

--

Before an unexpected death forced yours truly to drop out of the race (all the time cognizant of my "Snowball's Chance in Hell"), my erstwhile campaign for Mayor of Boise had two main components to its platform.

* Upon election, my first order of business would have been to "demote" myself and transform the Mayor's Office into a far less expensive ceremonial office and switch to a professional, accredited City Manager form of government, and;

* What I dubbed: "Enthusiastic Plagiarism". Very few - if any - of the problems faced here in Idaho are unique to Idaho and have long since been successfully addressed...

If a tree falls in the forest and there's no one there to hear it, does it make a sound?

As of late, authorities at political events have taken to creating special areas for protesters, peaceful or otherwise, severely curtailing free speech and blunting, even eliminating any show of dissent.

At the Democratic National Convention in Denver these were dubbed "Freedom Cages" (An oxymoron if ever there was one).

Closer to home... During the National Governor's Association meeting held in Boise during Governor Kempthorne's reign, special "Free Speech Zones" were set up to keep the peaceful protesters out of sight of the media and visiting dignitaries.

This very same tactic was employed successfully by Communist China during the recent Beijing Olympics.

On 09 August 2008, The Boise Picayune posed this question (via email) to our Federal, State and Local Elected Officials, those Seeking Office, and Members of Law Enforcement:

"Currently before the 110th Congress of the United States is H. R. 5843 - Act to Remove Federal Penalties for the Personal Use of Marijuana by Responsible Adults.

Would you please share with the public whether you intend to support this legislation, and briefly express your views on deprioritizing or decriminalizing the personal use and possession of marijuana by adults."

--

As of 25 August 2008, The Boise Picayune had received no replies.

--

The Idaho State Tax Commission sells "Marijuana Tax Stamps" for $3.50 per Gram of Marijuana.

--

Hailey, Idaho recently joined the growing number of communities that have voted to deprioritize / decriminalize - vis-à-vis legalize - marijuana.

In 2006, 89% of the nearly 830,000 Americans arrested for marijuana offenses were arrested for mere possession.

That's over 3/4 of a Million arrests that consume Billions...

Brandi Swindell, a local Christian and pro-life advocate, made local and national headlines today after she was detained in Tiananmen Square in Beijing for protesting.

She called at least one local media outlet for an interview about her detainment from her hotel in China and talked to several others (who may or may not have initiated the interviews).

Then, it turns out they detained her again this morning after a similar episode. The media's reporting that she is protesting Chinese government's oppression of religion and democracy.

Is Brandi simply feeling the effects of a harsh government's reaction to protesting, or is she intentionally victimizing herself for media attention?

With gas prices getting so high, one thing my family has been doing to save money is trading grocery shopping trips with other family members that live nearby. We combine our grocery lists, then take turns going to the store. It doesn't take much longer in the store, and saves gas and time each week.

I'm curious if anyone else is doing something similar, or has other ideas to save on fuel and time.
